To get a good overview of the availability of your resources it is a good idea to define day partitions.
You can add these through F11 -> Day partitions:

Below for a driver it is scheduled that he is available from 8:00 - 12:00 (schedule kind is Available). Also a line with schedule kind Appointment is made for 15:00 - 19:00.
In the planscreen you will see this driver is busy for day parts 3 and 4 and available for day part 2:

When the indication doesn't work, check whether Check resource appointments is set to Yes
