Emission reporting will be mandatory for many companies as of January 1, 2025.
Many of our customers want/need to offer greenhouse gas emissions to their customers. Transport is often part of a larger chain. The challenge is that every party in the chain calculates emissions in the same way.
For this purpose, we offer the CO2 Emissions module to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and provide reports to clients or for your own use.
Smart Freight Center (SFC) has established a global logistics emissions council: Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC). This council has developed a framework to make emission calculations unambiguous. SFC is an international non-profit organization focused on reducing the emissions impact of global freight transport.
The GLEC Framework version 2.0 has provided the principles on which ISO 14083 is based, which will serve as a formally recognized global standard for calculating greenhouse gas emissions from transport chains (including logistics and freight).
To ensure that a supplier complies with the GLEC framework, it can be accredited by SFC. Transpas uses PTV Developer for emission calculations. These products are accredited by SFC.
The emissions from these routes are often unknown, because they depend on many variable factors (type of boat, distance, speed, etc.). Therefore, the emission intensity must be indicated here.
Sometimes this data can be requested/viewed from the ferry or train company, in other cases the data from this document GLEC_FRAMEWORK_v3_UPDATED_13_12_23.pdf (smart-freight-centre-media.s3.amazonaws.com). In the first case, it must be checked whether the data supplied falls within the GLEC framework.
For reporting at customer level (i.e. per shipment, goods line and package level), the emission values of the resource combination must be distributed over the shipments.
The method used for this is Great Circle Distance payload (as the crow flies).
For a full description see GLEC_FRAMEWORK_v3_UPDATED_13_12_23.pdf (smart-freight-centre-media.s3.amazonaws.com) . The report requires that it be stated which standard (ISO14083) and which allocation (Great Circle Distance payload) has been applied.
Reporting can be done via the Emissions report (report number 300). Various parameters can be specified, such as: period, client, freight payer and/or plan group.
To be able to group in the report, two parameters can also be selected.
This report complies with ISO14083 (follow-up to EN16258).
